What it is:
In 2015, 21 launched with a $400 bitcoin computer that was supposed to jump-start a developer ecosystem around the crypto-currency. The actual device is just a small part of its vision. At its launch,its investors compared it to the invention of the Netscape internet browser—no one forecast what would be built on top of it. The company wants its computer to be that baseline and have developers reimagine how bitcoin could change payments on the internet.
Founded:
2013 by Nigel Drego, Daniel Firu, Veerban Kheterpal, Matthew Pauker, and Balaji Srinivasan.
Funding:
$116 million from Andreessen Horowitz, Qualcomm, Cisco, and Peter Thiel.
